Frequently asked questions

Start with the public dossier. Detailed industrial and commercial discussions are then organized directly with BLC to suit your project.

Your first questions

Can BLC be used in buildings and roads?

Both application families are presented. Pavement insulation has a specific historical dossier. Building uses and other works require qualification matched to their function.

Is it structural concrete?

The documented insulating mix must not automatically be treated as structural concrete. Loads, reinforcement and design strength are determined by the designer.

Can traffic use it after 24 hours?

The 2.0 MPa result is a compressive-strength measurement. Traffic, cover and subsequent work follow the specifications and site checks.

Is it waterproof or maintenance-free?

Absorption tests do not establish watertightness. Drainage, interfaces and maintenance remain necessary. No universal elimination of potholes is claimed.

Where can I find the reports?

The evidence centre provides laboratory results and a public edition of the pavement study. Recipe and manufacturing passages are not distributed.

How do I select an applicator?

Define the sector, region and schedule. BLC can organise discussions with the producer and prospective participants; availability and status must be confirmed.

How do I start a licensing discussion?

Introduce your company, territory and capabilities. Detailed discussions follow project review and establishment of the appropriate confidentiality framework.

What should I send initially?

A non-confidential description is sufficient: application, region, dimensions or volumes and schedule. Agree on a sharing framework before sending sensitive plans or data.

BLC · 2026

September 2026 clarifications.

Does MTQ status still require a pilot?

In its replies of September 10, 11 and 15, 2026, MTQ confirms “produit éprouvé” status for pavement insulation. Evaluation of that use is complete; a pilot project was not required to complete it. Recognition applies to the evaluated formulation and use. It does not cover lightweight fill, classified as “produit non retenu”, and is neither a purchase commitment nor automatic approval of every pavement design. Design and contract requirements remain project-specific.

Do the 12 inches represent all excavation?

BLC’s proposed configuration places 12 inches (30.48 cm) of lightweight concrete on prepared subgrade, followed by a drainage aggregate layer with a project-specific design thickness and asphalt. It has no granular foundation below BLC. The economic model’s 5 cm drainage layer and 19 cm asphalt thickness are costing assumptions, not universal specifications.

How much does a kilometre of BLC road cost?

Pricing depends on design, quantities, transport, production and site conditions. BLC prepares a tailored assessment after an initial discussion. Detailed industrial costs and commercial terms are shared confidentially.

Can a road reopen in two days?

Two productive days of placement do not represent the full construction schedule. Excavation, drainage, curing, asphalt, inspections and associated works must be added. The historical 2 MPa result at 24 hours does not automatically authorize equipment traffic.
